Pune Railway Station

Pune also known as 'Punyanagari', is the second biggest city in Maharashtra. It is situated 160 km to the southeast of Mumbai. Pune is known as the 'Cultural Capital Of Marathi People'. The existance of Pune city dates back to 937 AD, where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, 'The Founder Of Maratha Empire' spent early part of his life. Pune Railway Station:

Pune Railway Station is one of the most important railway station in Maharashtra, which is situated in the city centre and can be comfortably accessible from any part of the city. The rail route between Pune and Mumbai is served by Central Railways, whereas the rail route between Pune and Chennai is served by South Central Railways. Pune Junction is well connected to almost all major destinations like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and many other places of country.

Pune city has two main railway stations viz Shivaji Nagar Railway Station and Pune Railway Station. From both of them Pune Railway Station is preferred by most of the passengers. Because is a major halt for almost all important trains, and it's location is also very prime. It is just 9.3 km away from Pune Airport, 3.4 km from Mahatma Phule Museum, 5.3 km from Aga Khan Palace, 8.1 km from Golf Club, 9.4 km from Rajiv Gandhi Udyan, 4.5 km from Shahstri Nagar and 6.1 km from Film and Television Institute.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus:-


CST is a historic railway station which is also a head quarter of Mumbai Central Railway. It is also a prime attraction for tourists due to its interesting history. CST is also used as a warehouse for import and export of goods to/from Mumbai. This station was built in 1850s by the Great Indian Peninsular Railway and the name given to it is Bori Bunder, there after it was named as Victoria Terminus, then finally it was named as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus which is derived from the name of India's and Maharashtra's great and patriotic king Chhatrapati Shivaji.

This station is abbreviated as CST and still many peoples use to refer it by the name VT which is an abbreviation for Victoria Terminus. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is a very big railway station which has total 18 platforms among which 6 are for local trains whereas remaining 12 are for long distance trains. Plans for upgrading Mumbai CST with Pune Junction and Nagpur Junction are also under construction.
