Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi

Indira Gandhi International Airport also known as Palam airport is an international airport located in New Delhi. The name of this airport is derived from the name of former Prime Minister 'Indira Gandhi'. It is second most busiest airport in India, in terms of passengers. It provides services to around 23 million passengers per year. It has overtaken Mumbai Airport, which is the busiest airport in South Asia in terms of aircraft traffic movements per day. Mumbai is also a busiest airport in terms of passengers carried annually, same title is expected to shift to Delhi Airport.

Delhi Airport is privately managed by Delhi International Airport Limited, and is among the important gateways to India. This airport currently has three terminals, and the beginning of the operation at new Terminal 3 has made it the largest and major hub of aviation in South Asia. It aims to handle 100 million passengers by the year 2030. It is a first airport in India to operate 2 runways at a time.


Airport Terminals:

Terminal 1:

It is again divided into four sub-parts. Terminal 1A is for domestic flights by MDLR Airlines, GoAir, Indian Airlines and Air India Regional. Terminal 1B was closed down after the opening of Terminal 1D in 2009. At Terminal 1C domestic airlines from 1A and 1D turns up. Terminal 1D is a new temporary domestic terminal, which cater only the low priced carriers, and is used by Jet Airways, JetLite, Indigo, SpiceJet and Kingfisher airlines.

Terminal 2:

It ia meant for international operations, which caters more than 50 airlines like Air India, Indigo, JetLite, Indian Airlines, Kingfisher, GoAir, etc.

Terminal 3:

It is the 8th largest passenger terminal in world, with a capacity of handling 34 million passengers per year. It serves total 168 check-in counters, 78 aerobridges, 48 contact stands, 30 parking bays, 15 X-ray screening areas, 72 immigration counters, duty-free shops and so on.

Terminal 4 & 5:

These terminals are under construction. After the completion of these terminals, international flights will be shifted here and Terminal 3 handle only domestic air traffic.

Hajj Terminal and Cargo Terminal are there at Delhi Airport. Along with this, thid airport also offers best accommodation at the comfortable Hotels Near Delhi International Airport.
